hi.doctor is a second opinion on the health devices people buy for home: blood pressure monitors, thermometers, pulse oximeters, glucose meters and the rest. We answer one question before any other: has anyone independent checked that this thing is accurate?
That question matters more than it sounds. Search Amazon for a blood pressure monitor and you will find hundreds of well-rated models, most of which have never been through a clinical validation study. A star rating tells you the box arrived and the screen lights up. It cannot tell you whether the number on the screen is right, and that number may end up in front of your doctor or decide whether you call one.
What we cover
We are building the site one kind of device at a time, and doing each properly before starting the next. Blood pressure comes first, because it has the clearest independent validation lists: validatebp.org in the US and the British and Irish Hypertension Society list in the UK. Thermometers, pulse oximeters, hearing aids, pain relief and the rest follow, each with its own standard, written at the top of its section.
Who we are, and who we are not
We are not doctors, and nothing here is medical advice. We do not tell you what your readings mean or what to do about them; that is for your own doctor. What we do is the homework before the purchase: checking validation lists, matching model numbers, reading the guidance from the AHA, NHS, FDA and similar bodies, and summarizing what buyers report. Every guide lists its sources so you can check our work. See our medical disclaimer.
Affiliate links
When you buy something through a link to Amazon, hi.doctor may earn a small commission, at no extra cost to you. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. Commissions never decide what we recommend: a device has to pass validation and clear the same rating bar whether or not it earns anything. You can read exactly how we choose in how we check.
